New LRB Arms Bolt
Well its finally out...whats out you say?, LRB Arms has finally got a new USGI Spec Bolt for the M14/M1A receiver. There are a few handful of the first production run bolts and those bolt was given to a select few gunsmiths and some private owners. There is always a lot of high hopes excitement and anticipation for any M14/M1A rifle parts to join the market and now for the ever sought after USGI parts.............I am hoping that the price of the USGI parts will depreciate even more in price due to the USGI Spec parts are just as good or better. Now that there are Manufactures or companies like LRB Arms to produce such parts...........its gonna be a win...win situation for us all.
For those private owners who had a chance to handle these new bolts, here is one great buddy of mine who owns one and he would like to share his review .
Well here it is, I just picked it up earlier today! Now I gotta get busy lapping this bolt to the receiver and now wait for my replacement Spring/Plunger for the extractor. Last time I took apart my last bolt, it jumped up, bit me and ran away, so hopefully I'll get one by Friday. LRB hooked me up bigtime when they gave me an opportunity to purchase one, which I could not pass up!
Ok! I lapped the bolt in today and the actual lapping took more time than the last bolt I used. I also had to remove the barrel from the receiver to get it done. The LRB bolt just wouldn't close all the way when I dropped it in, so I thought this was the best way to go for a uniform lapping job. When I first dropped the bolt in it would only close 2/3 the way down. I tried to get it closed but it wouldn't budge.
After the lapping was complete I tightened the barrel back to "Straight up", I checked the headspace and it checked out at 1.634 which is exactly where I wanted it (Yes I opened up the chamber a bit from the last time from 1.632). The receiver got a good cleaning with some acetone before installing the barrel and then greased up with some good old Lubriplate after it was all assembled. When I put it all together, it seemed as if the action was even smoother than before. Maybe it's my imagination? On the last bolt I used, if I rode the bolt to battery very slowly the old bolt would catch and wouldn't lock to battery unless I gave the rifle a rap on the side. LRB's bolt would always lock into battery no matter how slow I was with the charging handle. I know you're not supposed to do that but that's how I get a feel for how smooth the action is. Weather it's the right way or not to check for function, I was very impressed! All night I was was having fun cycling that bolt over and over again. The finish is beautiful and matches the receiver perfectly.
I cannot wait to get that plunger/spring for the extractor in the mail and test fire this baby!!!!. I love this hobby!!!!
