MOD 0 Socom 16
I don't know if these photos worked, as it is my first time trying to
post any pics. But, I think I may have the SOCOM completed. I actually
ordered a McMillan, MSF-14 stock for it, but then ordered the EBR
because I couldn't find anyone that I trusted to bed it, and I couldn't
wait anymore to get it all together. Plus, I'm about to do a build with
LRB and thought I would want the EBR on it, so I ordered it and figured
I would check it out on both. But now that I feel the weight, and
think about the situation, it may make more sense to bed the longer
barreled rifle with the LRB receiver and the SOCOM seems pretty sweet
like it is now. I haven't gotten to the range yet, though, with the new
gear on it. So, I have a few gas cylinders and pistons to try, until I
find out which ones it likes best. But, it has a USGI trigger group,
gas cylinder, piston, and plug, SEI front sight, and rear sight(which
still needs to be installed), Bassett high mount, Accupoint 1-4 scope,
Sadlak op rod spring guide. If the USGI TRW bolt I ordered ever shows
up, I'll have it headspaced and installed, and probably a USGI op rod,
because, why not at this point? Am I missing anything you can think of?
Sooo, as cheap as that was(haaahaaa) now I need to begin building the
pricey LRB M25. But I think this is pretty much finished. So thanks to
all the folks who helped me with advice and information when I first
showed up asking questions.
I took it to the range today (8/31/11) and had to spend some time "tweeking" things. I went ahead and put the normal rear battle sight on because the hole looked smaller than the original. I found that the scope mount just slightly touched the rail when I mounted it, and threw it off. Sooooo, I hated to do it, but I slightly filed down the forward, underside, half inch of the mount until it just barely cleared. I was then able to dial in the scope and the irons and start putting rounds down range. It shoots really good and feels really good. I was able to get about a 1 inch, 3 round group at 100 yards, but could only get about a two inch, 5 round group. And maybe a 3 or 4 inch group for an entire 20 round mag. And then, somehow, I ran out of ammo by the end of the day. WTF, didn't I bring about 200 rounds? Anyway, it was a good day, and I think the rifle can shoot better than what I was doing with it. I just have to dial myself in now to figure it out. I was shooting on a bench, with sandbags, in order to remove as much of myself from the equation and see what the gun could do. Like I say, I'm pretty sure it can do better, so, I guess I just have to keep going back. Tough job, but somebody has to do it, haaaahaaaaa. Plus, I got the Pelican case foam cut out so it fits real nice for rides there from the safe. So hopefully I can improve my shooting and get some killer groups. Once I get a little better I'll move to 200 yards, and keep going to figure out the capabilities. I really love this thing. I can't freaking wait to get going with the LRB build. Guess I need to go ahead and send that deposit to Ted Brown.
